At first Iâd been worried about Toby getting used to Chase. He didnât really do well with new people. It had helped that we stayed at my house all week. I neednât have worried. Toby seemed as enamored of Chase as I was. He curled up in Chaseâs lap the moment he sat on the couch.
âHey, cutie,â he said, stroking his ears. âLove the hoodie.â Toby had on a blue Adidog hoodie. âBut why do you put a shirt on him during the summer?â
âHe licks and scratches himself when heâs nervous. He has a few sore spots. This is the only way to keep him from making it worse.â
âPoor baby.â Chase nuzzled him, and I was suddenly jealous of my dog.
âHow about me?â I asked, sitting beside him.
âAre you feeling neglected?â He leaned into me.
âYes,â I said softly as he trailed kisses along my jaw. I growled at his teasing and pulled him in for a kiss. Toby jumped down as I pulled Chase on top of me. Toby needed to learn sooner than later, that Chase was all mine.
We kissed for a while until things started to get heated. âWe need to finish getting ready. Theyâll be here soon.â
Chase sighed as he sat up.
I understood his frustration. I wanted him. Like crazy. But our relationship was so new. It was like the game of Jenga. If you moved any one piece the whole thing could come tumbling down. Our relationship was fragile. That one shift could cause the whole thing to fall apart. Chase didnât understand, and sometimes I had to work hard at convincing him I wanted him without letting it get too far.
Adding Chase to my nights with Dylan and Sadie was another thing that could topple us. I wasnât used to the whole relationship thing. What if I sucked at it? Then Chase would leave me.
âIâm the one who should be nervous,â Chase said.
âWhat do you mean?â Was I that obvious?
âYou bite your thumb when youâre nervous.â
I put my hand down. I hadnât even noticed.
âCome on,â he said, pulling me up. âLetâs finish getting ready.â
There wasnât much left to do. I made queso dip and Chase scrubbed the countertops. I told him Iâd already cleaned, but it seemed to help calm him down. He also made chocolate chip cookies. It was the perfect dessert to go with pizza and beer. Dylan and Sadie were picking up the pizza on their way over.
âIs there anything else I can do?â Chase glanced around the room, but there was nothing to do but wait.
âI can think of one thing you can do.â
âReally? What is it?â He seemed so eager. I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him close.
âHelp me calm down?â I kissed Chaseâs neck, finding my favorite spot under his ear. His breath caught.
âThis is calming you down?â
âNot all of me,â I said, pressing my erection against him.
Chase laughed. âYouâre such a tease, Maxwell. Donât cock that thing, if you donât plan on shooting it.â
âI blame you for looking so damn hot.
